What's Coming to LexiCraft: A Peek at the Road Ahead

LexiCraft Team

LexiCraft launched with two tools: a word generator and a word finder. In the months since, we've added over 100,000 words to the database, built category pages for 23 themes, and created a flywheel where every generated word automatically becomes findable and indexable.

That's the foundation. Here's what we're building on top of it.

More Themed Categories

The current themed worlds — D&D, Elf, Mythology, Space, Waterfall, Games — are just the beginning. We're planning to expand into:

  • Horror — dread, the uncanny, body horror, psychological terror
  • Solarpunk — ecological hope, community, regenerative futures
  • Steampunk — gears, invention, Victorian-era wonder
  • Oceanic — the deep sea, bioluminescence, pressure and silence
  • Celestial — stars, constellations, astrology, cosmic mythology
  • Linguistics — words about words, language phenomena, phonetics

Each new category gets a dedicated page, a seed of curated vocabulary, and the generator's attention. If there's a theme you'd love to see, tell us.

Word of the Day

A daily word, served on the homepage and available as an email or notification. Not just common "beautiful words" lists — words that have been coined or curated specifically for LexiCraft, with full definitions, etymologies, and example sentences.

The word-of-the-day will rotate through categories, so one day you get a word for an emotion, the next something from mythology, the next a freshly coined D&D term.

User Collections

Right now, when you find a word you love, you can bookmark it in your browser. We want to do better than that.

User collections will let you save words to named lists — "Names for my fantasy city", "Words I actually want to start using", "D&D session prep" — and share those lists as public URLs. Collections become a new form of content: curated by users, linked between pages, and discoverable by others searching for similar themes.

Community Coinages

The generator currently coins words for any individual user. We want to open a path for community coinages — words proposed, debated, and voted on by the LexiCraft community before being elevated to the curated vocabulary.

Think of it as a lightweight lexicography process. A user proposes a word for a concept that clearly needs naming. Others refine the definition. The best version gets curated status and appears across the site as an authoritative entry.

This is how living languages work. We want LexiCraft to work the same way.

Deeper Etymology

Etymology is one of the most engaging things about words — knowing that disaster literally means "bad star", or that salary comes from the Latin for salt (because Roman soldiers were paid in it), changes how you think about those words forever.

We're working on richer etymology for our curated words: not just "origin: Latin" but a narrative of how the word evolved, what roots it carries, and what it meant before it meant what it means now.

For coined words, we plan to generate a synthetic etymology — a story of the fictional or constructed lineage of the word, as if it had evolved through a language family of its own.

Language Family Trees

A longer-horizon idea: visual etymology graphs that show how words relate through shared roots. Click on a Latin root like lux (light) and see all the words in the database that trace back to it — luminous, lucid, translucent, and LexiCraft coinages built on the same root.

This turns the word database into a navigable structure, not just a searchable list.

What Won't Change

The core tools stay free. The word finder, the generator, the category pages — these are the heart of LexiCraft and they'll remain open to everyone.

We'll build a lot more on top of them. But we won't change what's already working.

If you want to be the first to know when any of this ships, follow us on X (@lexicraftapp) or Instagram.

And if there's something you want that isn't on this list — tell us. The best product ideas always come from the people using the thing.

With love,

The LexiCraft Team
