sempiternal
sem-pih-TER-nul·adjective
Sempiternal — an enduring, changeless eternity that stretches forward through time
Definition
Eternal and unchanging; everlasting.
In depth
Sempiternal describes something that is everlasting, continuous, and fundamentally immune to the destructive forces of time. Unlike abstract timelessness, it implies a constant, enduring presence that persists through every passing epoch.
Origin
Rooted in the Latin 'sempiternus', which marries 'semper' (always) with 'aeternus' (eternal). In medieval scholastic philosophy, a careful distinction was made between 'aeternitas' (the timelessness of God outside of time) and 'sempiternitas' (the infinite duration of the physical universe flowing through time).
